Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

Sherwood Wirt captured the mood of that first Christmas in this description, which he wrote in a Christmas card:
The people of that time were being heavily taxed, and faced every prospect of a sharp increase to cover expanding military expenses. The threat of world domination by a cruel, ungodly, power-intoxicated band of men was ever just below the threshold of consciousness. Moral deterioration had corrupted the upper levels of society and was moving rapidly into the broad base of the populace. Intense nationalistic feeling was clashing openly with new and sinister forms of imperialism. Conformity was the spirit of the age. Government handouts were being used with increasing lavishness to keep the population from rising up and throwing out the leaders. Interest rates were spiraling upward in the midst of an inflated economy. External religious observances were considered a political asset, and abnormal emphasis was being placed upon sports and athletic competition. Racial tensions were at the breaking point. In such a time, and amid such a people, a child was born to a migrant couple who had just signed up for a fresh round of taxation, and who were soon to become political exiles. And the child who was born was called, among other things, Immanuel, God with us.163
Christ being born in a manger was not a sudden impulsive act, it was God creating Himself a body for the purpose of redemption and fellowship.
102 Today when they try to make Him just a philosopher or a teacher, it just boils me. He was Divine, He was more than a teacher, or a philosopher, He was Emmanuel.
God created Himself a body, His Son, and came down and dwelt in that body, God in Christ.

And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
How did God create?
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

As an eagle stirreth up her nest, Fluttereth over her young, Spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, Beareth them on her wings:
The Holy Spirit is the Atmosphere that brings the Word to life. None of God’s creation can have life without it.
We are His created children, We have a Father.
32 Did you ever notice Jesus said, when He cast out a devil He done it with His finger. If Jesus said, “If I cast out devils, the finger of God—with the finger of God…” See what a devil is to Him?
For healing; it’s just a little thing. But watch when a sheep is lost, what did He do? He went and got the sheep and put it on His shoulders.
What’s the strongest part of the man? His back and his legs. See, the devil’s nothing to Him. But the sheep, He puts it across His shoulders and holds its feet.
And He packs it with the strongness of His body till He gets it back to the fold. God loves His children.
33 Now, how did He get them? The Holy Spirit went forth and brooded over the earth. And as He begin brooding, cooing…
Let’s just say, for the talk sake, He was going…He was calling, cooing like the evening dove when she’s setting, cooing to her mate.
And as He begin to coo over nothing but a bleach desert of volcanic eruption, look, coming down the hill there. I see some potash begin to move over with some calcium. I notice then again, the strange thing, a little moisture and petroleum begin to run together.
And right from under a little rock a little Easter flower raised up its head. Life come on the earth. And it screams and said, “Come, Father, look at this.”
God the Father looks it over and said, “That’s very pretty; just keep on cooing.” 58-0619B - Ye Must Be Born Again
This is how He creates.
168 In the beginning, the Holy Spirit begin to brood over a bleak desert; excuse my emotions; but when there was nothing, and had never been nothing.
But the Holy Spirit was sent from God; not an intellectual. But the Holy Spirit was sent from the Presence of God, to make love over the earth.
169 And, as it was, He stretched His big wings around the earth, and begin to make love, or to brood, coo over the earth. I can see calcium and potash coming together, and a little Easter lily stood up.
The Holy Spirit brood it out of the earth. And He kept brooding. And as He cooed and brood, I begin to see trees come up, birds begin to fly from the earth, animals begin to walk.
170 And then He kept cooing, and a man came up, called Adam. And Adam looked lonesome, so He made a by-product for him, and took a rib from his side and made him a sweetheart, Eve. And He loved Adam and He loved Eve. And He takes them…
171 And I can see little Eve, as she laid her little head against the shoulder of Adam. And she was everything that a woman could ever expect, and more.
And as she laid against the big, strong shoulder of her sweetheart, Adam, and they walked through the garden, perhaps, maybe, the lion roared. She couldn’t be scared, ’cause there was no fear.
So he said, “Sweetheart, that is the lion. I will call him. Leo, the lion, come forward. Cheetah, the tiger, you come here and lay down.” And they followed them, like kittens.
172 The winds begin to blow, and little Eve’s hair begin to blow. And she said, “Ooh, that wind.”
173 “Peace, be still.” And the winds obeyed him. He was the son of God. She was his sweetheart.
174 And then I can hear him say, “Dear, do you see the sun setting? It’s time that we talked to Father.”
175 So, they went up to the cathedral, the great Tree. And as they knelt down, all of a sudden, a Heavenly, glowing Light came down, the Logos.
The Holy Spirit that had brood them out of the earth, came down; Father God. And He said, “Children, have you enjoyed yourself today?” “Yes, Father.”
176 “I have come down to kiss you ‘good night,’ and to lay you down to rest, tonight.” He kissed them on the cheeks, and laid them down. Nothing could harm.
He was right in the bushes with them. The lion, He laid the lion down. He laid Cheetah, the tiger, down. He laid them all down, to rest. And Father was so pleased.
177 Then sin, by knowledge, intellectual…I hope you’re getting it. By intellectual, sin entered the world, by trying to find more light, getting something that wasn’t in the Word of God.
God said, “The day you eat thereof, that day you’ll die.” But Eve wanted something new.
178 Oh, can you see, from my heart, that I am not trying to cross up someone? I am only trying to lay out, in view, THUS SAITH THE LORD,
the Word, nothing but that; not fantastics, and big churches, and intellectuals, but to listen to the One who brood us from the earth. Sin entered.
179 And now, friends, if the Holy Spirit was the only instrument that God used to brood us out of the earth. And we did come from the earth. And we were here before there was an earth.
Remember, here is encouragement for you people that’s to be prayed for. If the Holy Spirit, by brooding, made the physical being, who is the architect of our bodies? O God, may people see it!
180 The Holy Spirit gave you your appendix, your eyes, your nose, your mouth, your heart. And put a new spirit in you, and then come to live in you.
Do not, by any means, accept intellectual things, theologies that’s contrary to the Bible, but stay only with THUS SAITH THE LORD. “He was wounded for our transgressions. With His stripes we were healed.”
181 The Holy Spirit brooded His Own body, to live in, Jesus Christ; when He overshadowed Mary and created, or brood, a Blood cell in the womb, that brought forth the Son, Christ Jesus;
where God Himself tabernacled, on earth, for thirty-three and a half years. And was made a propitiation for our sins, to redeem us, and to bring reconciliation between lost man and a holy God, to kiss them and reconcile them together.
That, in the cool of the evening, when the sun is setting over our brow, when my life’s journey is run and my race is finished, I want Him to kiss me to sleep, as He did Stephen when he was baffled from hand to hand.

The same Holy Ghost! not another one, but the same one that is in you now, overshadowed Mary.
Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
ἐπισκιάζω, I overshadow, envelop.
To put a tent over.
When a shadow comes it changes the atmosphere.
Have you ever set under the shade of a great tree during the summer heat? It lowers the temperature so conditions are right to be born.
125 Notice. God’s Life, which is in the Greek called Zoe, moving through them and in them, quickened their minds to His Word.
Now, let me say it real quietly now. The Spirit of God that moves among the people, quickens the mind of the person to the promise of God.
See? It does it. Look. And I’m trying to show you the…and let you realize that I’m speaking now of the Church, and also quickened to Life, in Him.
126 Although, they only was His attributes, to begin with. But if God said, “In this day,” back in the beginning, “John Doe will be My servant,” millions of years ago.
Now, John Doe is born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies, because he’s a mortal. But, maybe, he gets a little religious feeling.
He’ll go join a church. Maybe he’ll join Pentecostal church. Don’t know. He might join anything. But let him get under the atmosphere of God, once. See?
John Doe is bound to recognize Who his Father is, just as that eagle recognized who the mother was. It’s got to realize it. See?
Only, that John Doe is God’s attribute that’s become a word, spoken, and then the Holy Spirit seeks that word out.

A Christian longs for that Atmosphere, the overshadowing that produces the works of God in our mortal flesh.
10 And I certainly have…If I said “amen” and walked out the door, I’d say it would pay me every Sunday to drive up here, or have my children even to come up, to set under an atmosphere like this. Because, it’s always the atmosphere that brings the results.

11 You can lay a seed out there in the ground. No matter how much that seed is germitized, and lay it there, it’s got to have an atmosphere to make it live. See?
That sun has to come to a certain power, before, bring it to a certain atmosphere. An egg has to have an atmosphere, or it won’t hatch. No matter how fertile it is, it’s got to have that atmosphere.
12 And I think, that in a group like this, Christians hatch out, are born again in such an atmosphere as this. This is kind of atmosphere I was born under.
No matter where I go and visit, the cold world, and mission fields and so forth, I can even stand and close my eyes and think of this atmosphere. 64-0531 - The Oddball
The Holy Spirit created the atmosphere that would bring a conception of the Word.
Once the Holy spirit makes you a new creation, you are a creator.
150 Now, don’t fuss. See? Temper breeds temper. First thing you know, you grieve the Holy Spirit away from you, you’ll be fussing back. Then the Holy Spirit takes Its flight. Temper breeds temper.
And love breeds love. Be full of love. Jesus said, “This will all men know you’re My disciples, when you have love, one for another.” That’s the fruit of the Holy Spirit, love.
151 And did you know, you are a little creator, yourself? You know that? Certainly.
You’ve seen people that you just love to be around. You don’t know why. Just that loving type of person. Have you seen that? [Congregation says, “Amen.”—Ed.]
Just as kind, there, you like to be around them. That’s…They create that atmosphere, by the life they live, the way they talk, their conversation.
Then, you’ve seen those that, every time, you shun them. All time, they want to talk about something evil, and talk about somebody. Say, “Oh, my! There they come.
They’re going to criticize somebody there. He’s in here now, he’s going to talk about this man. All they’re going to do is tell dirty jokes, or something about women, or something like that.”
You just hate to get around them. See? They create. Seemingly, pretty nice people, but they create that atmosphere.
And the things that you think on, the things that you do, the actions, the things you talk about, creates an atmosphere. 63-0630E - Is Your Life Worthy Of The Gospel?
The Holy Spirit is given to you, you must apply it yourself.
372 Get ready. Apply It. Believe It. Clean up. Let your children, let your family, let your loved ones, see It in you. That’s right. It’ll take effect. Yes, sir!
373 Then apply the Token in prayer, with consideration, with believing. Apply It with such love, and so forth, till you know it’s going to take, it’s going to take place. That’s all.
Apply It in confidence, believing It’s going to help. When you talk to that child, when you talk to your husband, talk to your wife, talk to this loved one, believe that It’s going to help.
Just stand there, and say, “Lord, I’ve claimed them. They’re mine. I’m getting them for You, Lord.”
374 Apply It, and create that atmosphere around you, that they’ll just drop right into It. See?
Oh, you are, you are, if you got the Token, you create a spirit around you, a power, that when you walk, people know that you’re a Christian.
They love for you to say something to them. They believe your word. What you say, they hold onto it. See? That’s it.
375 Apply the Token, then walk with It. Claim your household. You must do it now. This is evening time. Now, you’ve been listening a long time, now this is the evening time.
It’s applying time now. The wrath will strike, one of these days, it might be too late then. See? Apply the Token, with confidence. 63-0901M - Token
Conclusion.
Apply the Token, and create an Atmosphere this Christmas of love and godliness, that will cause the Word to be born in your family.
Let your Word be born.
